White Paper: A New Paradigm in Digital Transformation

Year: 2025 | Role: Co-Author, Creative Director, Production Design

Overview

Co-authored with Paul Bertucci, Distinguished Architect at Salesforce, this white paper introduces a breakthrough framework that integrates Jobs to Be Done (JTBD) with Strategic Enterprise Architecture. The approach helps organizations align business strategy, customer needs, and emerging technologies for scalable, adaptive digital transformation.

Challenge

Most digital transformation efforts start with technology, often losing the context of business value and user needs. Without a clear link to customer goals or strategic outcomes, investments become misaligned, innovation stalls, and advantage erodes. We saw an opportunity to flip this: starting with user and business priorities, then aligning technology and architecture to drive adoption, stronger ROI, and sustainable growth.

My Role

I served as both co-author and creative director for this publication. In addition to developing the core framework and writing the content, I designed the full visual system—information architecture, layout, data visualizations, and graphics. My goal was to make complex concepts accessible and engaging, translating technical architecture into clear visuals that resonate with both business and technical audiences.

Impact

  • Accelerated Decision-Making: Faster alignment between business and technology teams.

  • Enhanced ROI: Greater return by targeting validated user needs.

  • Improved Adoption: Higher customer and internal adoption of digital solutions.

  • Reduced Risk: Lower failure rates through early identification of gaps.

The experience of working with you (Mario Ruiz) and Paul Bertucci on our tech stack simplification & business transformation was hands down the best collaboration with a 3rd party in my career. The passion for what you do, combined with your knowledge, drives a better outcome.

JOBS TO BE DONE: A USER-CENTERED FOUNDATION

We applied the Jobs to Be Done (JTBD) framework to map user needs across the business lifecycle, anchoring transformation around real human goals. We developed a model connecting user needs directly to enterprise architecture, aligning technology investments to real business outcomes, and used early-stage prototyping to visualize user journeys and workflows before committing to full-scale solutions.

STRATEGIC ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE: A NEW MODEL FOR DIGITAL-FIRST EXCELLENCE

Building on JTBD insights, we created a dynamic enterprise architecture model that evolves with business priorities and user needs. Rapid prototyping allowed us to visualize future-state experiences and capabilities early, aligning stakeholders before implementation. We developed a framework to identify where AI and agentic opportunities naturally fit within workflows, making innovation meaningful and actionable.

MAXIMIZING OUTCOMES: BUSINESS VALUE MODELING AND ROADMAP PRIORITIZATION

We built a prioritization method that maps initiatives by impact versus effort, focusing resources where they create the greatest value. Our approach produces a strategic roadmap that accelerates alignment, reduces risk, and maximizes ROI, with prototyping used throughout to de-risk assumptions, validate value early, and ensure solutions stay grounded in user needs and business outcomes.
